SAM @ world's first Kara-Orche
This month, SAM got involved in the world’s first karaoke with a live
orchestra. The event, Kara-Orche, was held in Steyne Gardens in
Worthing as part of the Splash FM Garden Party. Guests, most of who had laid out picnics in the park, were wowed by the
incredible sounds of the 32-piece National Symphony Orchestra (NSO),
and invited to sing along to songs such as Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody
and Robbie William’s Angels, following the words on the big screen

SAM helps hospital raise £10k
So
far this year, the SAM team have been very busy taking part in many
local and community events across the Sussex area. Last Saturday SAM
was delighted to take part in a special one-day fundraising event held
at the Queen Alexandra hospital home.

The SAM Band played to a welcome reception at the St Paul’s C of E primary school.

Students take over SAM!
Here at SAM we are very proud of the work experience placements we
provide. Each student is given an opportunity to gain first hand
practise and knowledge at the academy. The students are involved in many
activities including; helping organise local music events, giving
creative input for local competitions, assisting Ryan in the recording
studio, as well as using our various Roland music equipment for writing

**Roland Pianos come to SAM!**
The Sussex Academy of Music (SAM) has been given 6 brand new digital
pianos, which will be used to enhance tuition at the academy and will
also greatly benefit Songfactor, an innovative workshop looking for
songwriting talent.

Public rock out @ SAM!
As part of the Adur Festival, last Saturday the Sussex Academy of Music
(SAM) put on a day filled with music, dance and culture. Featuring the

Percussive Feet & SAM @Fringe
SAM provided the sound for a huge festival event at the Fringe– Percussive Feet. The event was part of the legendary Brighton Fringe Festival and held at the Friends Meeting Centre on Ship Street. SAM@ International Festival Day
On Saturday 5th June, SAM worked together with International Neighbours to help the pupils from St Nicholas and St Mary’s Primary School perform their poetic and musical interpretation of Rivers, at the annual International Festival Day. The event was part of the Adur Festival, and attracted people from all over the Adur district.

St Nic's pupils get poetic @SAM
Last week, 15 year 5 pupils from St Nicolas and St Mary’s Primary School in Shoreham-by-Sea came to SAM to record a musical interpretation of the topic Rivers for use at the International Neighbours event at the Adur Festival. Mrs Green from International Neighbours, St Nic’s and SAM worked together to create an exciting learning environment in which the children were able to work with professional musicians and record their composition in SAM’s exciting new recording studio. ...Read more |

Telegraphs on Inbetweeners?
Top Indie band the Telegraphs, who you may have seen touring with Thrice, Circa Survive or Brigade this year have been in the studio recording 5 demos! One of these tracks has even been put forward to play on the increasingly popular E4 show the Inbetweeners. Band members are Darcey Harrison (vocals/guitar), Sam Bacon (Drums),
Hattie Williams (Bass/Vocals), Aung Yay (Guitar), and Darren Le Warne
(Guitar). They formed in Brighton in 2005 and have an album out now
called ‘We Were Ghosts’...

Architects record @ SAM
The Architects, a hugely popular Brighton based Metal Rock band have been in to Riverside Recording Studio to demo an entirely new album. This all took place in between their heavy worldwide touring schedule, which included the Soundwave Tour in Australia, where they shared the stage with bands like Paramore and AFI.
Architects are currently on tour in America, playing just under 30 gigs between now and July. They will also be working with Steve Evetts (Dillinger Escape Plan) and recording in LA in May... ...Read more |

Mike Read recording @ SAM
Since opening its doors in November 2008, Sussex Academy of Music (SAM)
has gone from strength to strength and its new recording studio has
attracted ex Radio 1 DJ and I'm A Celebrity star Mike Read to record his
audio book 'The Songwriter' at the facilities.
Read presented at BBC Radio 1 from 1978 until 1991, revered for
promoting upcoming bands and live sessions. He won National Broadcaster
of the Year for 10 years running and is currently a regular reviewer of

Shoreham Lions - Any win will do
A pair of unlikely candidates may be winging their way to the top of the
charts with a world cup anthem set to have England scoring their way to
the world cup final! Locals Wayne Gumbrell, managing director of
Lionvest flooring company, and Mark Burt, of Pavillion Roofing penned
the song after Mark heard his daughter playing her Joseph and the

SAM @ Brighton Marathon
On Sunday, as 7 and a half thousand runners were completing their
massive 26 mile run, Brighton Music Scene and Sussex Academy of Music
(SAM) were waiting at the finish line with a with a gig boasting a
line-up of no less than 8 Brighton bands! The Brighton Band Marathon,
held at the prestigious and infamous Concorde 2, blasted the sounds of
The Maxibons, Gloria Cycles and other hugely popular acts out into the
